Man robs police officer in Apapa

A 28-year-old man, identified as Ikenna George, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a police officer in Apapa and stealing his phone.

George is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and assault.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Iyabosa Onaiwu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on October 29, 2018 at about 9:30pm at Railway Line, Ijora-Badia, Apapa.

“The defendant conspired together with others at large to steal one Tecno phone property of Sergeant Ipense Precious valued at N15,000,” Onaiwu said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant assaulted Sergeant Precious whose Force Number is 392071 by inflicting injury on his forehead with weapon which caused him bodily harm.

According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 287 and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate, O. S Abioye granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed and must furnish the court with two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the matter till November 22, 2018 for mention.
