Man steals 65 bags of corn

Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port

A 40-year-old man, identified as Emmanuel Akpan, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 65 bags of corn in Lagos.

Apkan is facing a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Friday Inedu told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 7, 2018 at about 12:20am along Alakija-Badagry Express Road, Lagos.

“The defendant conspired with others at large. Having in his possession 65 bags of corn reasonably suspected to have been stolen which he could not give satisfactory account of it,”Inedu said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 329(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate Temitope Babalola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till November 12, 2018 for mention.
