Man steals N1m from truck part buyer in Apapa

A 30-year-old man, identified as Mohammed Adamu, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N1 million from a truck part buyer in Apapa.

Adamu is facing a two-count charge of false pretense and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo told the court that the defendant committed the offences on October 23, 2018 at Apapa.

“The defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N1 million from one Amadu Usman with the pretence that he was going to sell one Mack truck head to him knowing same to be false,” Ekpo said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant stole the sum of N1 million from Usman.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 314(a) and 281 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the first count charge and pleaded not guilty to the second count charge.

In his ruling, Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

One of the sureties must be an Iman and N20,000 should be deposited into the Chief Registrar’s account.

He adjourned the matter till February 6, 2019 for mention.
