As part of activities marking the 25th anniversary celebration of the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), a health walk was yesterday held at Apapa.
The health walk, which started from the gate of Lagos Port Complex, Apapa, lasted for about 90 minutes, taking the journalists through Wharf Road, Apapa GRA, Park Lane, Creek Road, Wharehouse Road, Commercial and Burma Road, all in Apapa.
Port Manager, Lagos Port Complex (LPC) Apapa, Mr. Nasir Anas Mohammed, who flagged off and participated in the exercise along with some top management staff of the port, said that such health walk is an indication that members of the association are physically fit to cope with the challenges of their profession.
While congratulating the association on its ongoing silver jubilee celebration, Anas reaffirmed NPA’s support towards the realization of a better port operation adding that MARAN members, through their incisive reportage of port activities, will help create a more robust maritime sector.
“Let me congratulate all of us who participated in this. It goes to tell the community and the nation at large that members of MARAN are physically fit and because you are physically fit, whatever you write will be something solid and with your contribution, I’m sure we will get to that point of creating a maritime industry that is robust,” he said.
Mohammed said the LPC sees MARAN as partners in progress and tasks the association’s members to “see us as partners as well”.
“Whatever you are doing, we are part of it and whatever we are doing you are also part of it. That partnership has started and we will continue to solidify it and identify with all your activities in whatever way we can,” he stated.
Earlier in his remarks, President of MARAN, Mr. Bolaji Akinola thanked the port manager for his presence and contributions towards the vision of the association.
He said the exercise is historic in the history of the association as such health walk has not been held for long.
He said apart from the awareness the association is creating in commemoration of its 25th anniversary; such exercise will also enable members to stay physically fit.
The MARAN silver jubilee celebration continues today with a visit to an orphanage in Surulere, Lagos by members of the association.
