Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port

A 47-year-old boat mechanic, Benson Agbajorishe, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing an engine boat belonging to the Nigeria Police, Marine Division, Apapa.

Agbajorishe is facing a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

The port prosecutor, Alexander Esebamen, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on September 30, 2018 at 8pm at Elegbeta Marine Police Division, Apapa, Lagos.

“The defendant conspired together with others at large to steal one 75HP Yamaha Engine Block valued at N1 million property of the Nigeria Police, Marine Division, Apapa,” Esebamen said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate, O.S Abioye granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the matter till December 20, 2018 for mention.
