Two men namely Stephen Bobby (27) and Amaechi Ugwueze (26) were on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing imported goods worth N12.5 million from warehouse at Kirikiri Town, Apapa.
Bobby and Ugwueze are facing a three-count charge bothering on conspiracy, burglary and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Bassey Sunday told the court that the defendants committed the offences between March and June 2, 2018 between 1am and 4am at Bakare Jetty warehouse, Kirikiri Town, Apapa.
“The defendants conspired together to burgle and steal ten Aluminium beam valued N5 million, two folk lift engine valued N2.8 million, key starter tank, radiator fan of 145KVA generating set valued N580,000, cooling compressor, electric motors valued N4 million, gas cooker, audio sets valued N100,000, chairs and tables valued N50,000 and gee pee tank valued N70,000. Totally N12,550,000 property of one Chief S.B Bakare,” Sunday said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 309(1)(2) and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to all the charges against them.
In his ruling, the Magistrate O.S Abioye granted the defendants bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties, according to the Magistrate must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till July 5, 2018 for mention.
In a separate matter, a 19-year-old man identified as Valentine Kor was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing two truck brain boxes in Apapa.
Kor is facing a one-count charge bothering on stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Bassey Sunday told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 8, 2018 at about 3pm at Happy Home Road, Kirikiri Town, Lagos.
“The accused stole two truck brain boxes valued N50,000 property of one Bright Onuoha,” Sunday said.
According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
Kor pleaded guilty to the charge against him.
Magistrate O. S Abioye adjourned the case till June 20, 2018 for facts and sentence.
