Men plead guilty to displaying offensive weapons in Apapa

Two men namely, Taoreed Olowe (20) and Isiaka Idowu (28), were on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly displaying offensive weapons in Apapa.

The prosecutor, Inspector Donjor Perezi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on April 6, 2019 at about 5am at Abule Oduduwa Street, Ajegunle, Apapa.

“The defendants conspired together to take part in a street fight at Abule Oduduwa Street by Mechanic Bus Stop, Ajegunle, Apapa,” Perezi said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant unlawfully assemble and conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause fear to the neighbourhood by fighting, throwing bottles on passersby and striking the ground with cutlasses.

Perezi added that the defendants were found armed with cutlasses, broken bottles, sticks, knives and other offensive weapons in the public without authority.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411(d), 56(1a), 52(2), 44(4) and 51 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendants who are facing  a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, fighting, breach of peace and displaying offensive weapons, pleaded guilty to all the charges against them.

Magistrate O.A Erinle adjourned the case till April 16, 2019 for facts and sentence.
