Military rescues seafarer kidnapped November 2016

Vietnam-flagged bulk carrier Royal 16

Philippine government troops have rescued one crew member of the Vietnam-flagged bulk carrier Royal 16 who was held in captivity for more than seven months, ReCAAP ISC said.

While conducting military operations, the troops recovered the seafarer in Sumipsip, Basilan, Philippines.

On November 11, 2016, the 5,610 dwt bulker was boarded by ten armed men who abducted six crew members and wounded two. The attack occurred off Sibago Island.

To date, the remaining five crew members of Royal 16 are still being held in captivity.
