Monsoon storm sinks three vessels in Andaman Sea

A container ship, a fishing boat and a barge have capsized in the Andaman Sea off the coast of Phuket, Thailand, in the last 48 hours, according to Bangkok Post.

The Cambodia-flagged container vessel Sinaran Andaman sank yesterday after strong waves driven by monsoon winds pushed it onto a rocky shoreline of the Koe Island.

Royal Thai Navy airlifted all 10 crew members from the capsized Sinaran Andaman.

Two hours before the sinking of Sinaran Andaman, a longline fishing boat Anya Namchoke and its six crewmen capsized off KohRachaNoiisland. All six men were airlifted by the Thai Navy.

Thai Naval and Marine forces are still searching for six men who have been missing since 4 am local time Tuesday when their barge carrying construction material sank while en route from Phuket to KohRachaYaiisland.

Reports say the boxship and the barge both suffered engine failure before sinking.
