Court sentences stowaway

After series of adjournments, the Apapa Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos HAS began cross-examination IN the case between a clearing agent, Olufemi Deji and an exporter, Fatai Idris.

The prosecutor, Inspector Austin Ejieseme had earlier informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 22, 2016 at about 5:00pm at Creek Road, Apapa, Lagos.

The 46-year-old clearing agent allegedly obtained the sum of N1.2m from Idris under false pretence to clear and forward his goods for export to China.

He pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge bothering on false pretense and stealing.

Ejieseme said the offences contravened sections 312 and 285 of the criminal laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Osho-Adebiyi adjourned the case to March 21 for continuation of cross-examination.

Shortly after the adjournment, Deji threatened to beat up SHIPS & PORTS DAILY reporter, John Omoaka, who covered the court proceedings.
