The Navy in Warri, Delta State, has impounded an ocean going vessel, MT Jochebed, containing about 200,000 litres of stolen crude oil.
The vessel was intercepted by men of the Nigerian Navy Ship Delta, Warri, around Usan West in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State.
Arrested in the vessel were nine crew members, according to the Commander, NNS Delta, Navy Captain Musa Gemu, who briefed journalists on Tuesday on the matter.
He said the vessel containing the stolen crude oil was arrested last Sunday at about 3am by a Naval patrol ship at Usan area.
He added that the nine crew members could not give satisfactory explanation as to how they came about the product.
He said, “Last Sunday, our ships on patrol arrested MV Jochebed, a self-propelled barge, containing about 200,000 litres of substance suspected to be crude oil around Usan west of the northern part of the Chevron operations area.”
Gemu said this was one of the series of arrests made recently by his officers and men as part of efforts to stamp out illegal bunkering in his area of responsibility.
