In strategic recognition of its construction of the first Nigerian-made warship – NNS Andoni, the Naval Dockyard Limited (NDL) has been honored with the award of African Maritime & Energy (AME) Vessel Construction and Repairs Organization of the Year in Africa.
NDL bagged the prestigious award for its pursuit of excellence, integrity and quality service in ship repairs and ship building services for the support of the maritime industry and manpower development in the Oil and Gas sector.
The need for ship repairs and ship building facilities throughout naval history have been sources for creation and sustenance of naval capabilities as required for operations, both commercial and military. The Federal Government of Nigeria, in recognition of this fact as it strives to acquire and exercise sea power, invested in acquiring the Elder Dempster Shipyard, and transferred it to the Nigerian Navy to be developed into the Naval Dockyard Limited of today.
With the enactment of the Local Content Act and rapid advancement of the Nigerian maritime industry, the Naval Dockyard has become a beehive of activities in the sector as it serves as the only premier logistics facility of the Nigerian Navy available also to commercial clients.
NDL is a complete engineering outfit equipped to render quality services in docking of ships and boats, ship-building and construction, general ship and boat repairs, construction of boat and small crafts, construction of barges, marine construction, construction of offshore platforms and buoys, sandblasting and water-blasting, galvanizing and electroplating, and all kinds of mechanical and electrical repairs on a vessel.
