The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) said it had remitted N9.7b into the Federation Account from its operating surplus so far in 2014.
Mr Ziakede Akpobolokemi, the Director General of NIMASA, made the disclosure in a statement in Lagos on Friday.
He said that the agency was up-to-date in making remittances to the Federal Government.
Akpobolokemi said that the figures in recent media reports were not in consonance with what were recorded with the Federal Ministry of Finance.
He said the agency was mindful of the importance of resources in driving and actualising the transformation agenda and would continue to support it.
“NIMASA is mindful of the critical role of financial resources in actualising the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan.
“The agency will therefore continue to contribute its statutory quota towards making the government’s programmes a reality,” he said.
Akpobolokemi said the agency had continued to make remittances to the Federation Account and that this latest remittance for 2014 was above its projection.
He said that the agency was committed to actualising its mandate to work with more advanced technology as the recently launched Satellite Surveillance System.
He said that the system was capable of monitoring vessel activities in the country’s maritime domain.
