The Executive Committee of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association (PENGASSAN) and its sister union, NUPENG, have given an ultimatum to the management of Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC) to desist from subjecting workers of the refinery to untold hardship.
This was contained in an internal memo titled “Use of Personal Funds for WRPC Operations” sent to all NUPENG and PENGASSAN staff of the refinery and signed by the branch Secretary of NUPENG, Alladum Obialo, and the branch secretary of PENGASSAN, Odutayo, A.O.
“The branch Executive Councils of WRPC NUPENGASSAN have observed with utmost dismay the unabated trend where members of staff are compelled by management to use their personal funds and resources in running WRPC operations as a result of non-provision of necessary work tools and resources.”
The memo further revealed that staffs are forced to use their personal funds to purchase spare parts for maintenance works.
“These acts include the purchase of spare parts for repair works and plant operations, work tools, personal protective gears, repair of official vehicles, plant consumables, photocopying papers, printer cartridges, and stationaries,” they said.
