NPA and exemplary CSR

The road traffic situation makes Apapa not the most friendly environment in Lagos, even by the chaotic standards of road transportation in the state. Matters are compounded by the fact that Apapa is home to two Lagos ports – the Lagos Port Complex (LPC) and the Tin-Can Island Port Complex (TCIPC). The Lagos ports access roads are hellish for motorists and pedestrians alike because of the near-perennial gridlock there.
However, Apapa has lately undergone a transformation, the gridlock easing its strangle-hold on the Port City somewhat. This, SHIPS & PORTS DAILY findings reveal, owe to the rehabilitation of two very vital roads in Apapa – Wharf and Creek roads. A most commendable aspect of the roads’ repair project is that it was undertaken by the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).

It is an exemplary attitude of corporate social responsibility (CSR) that the NPA, the landlord of the nation’s ports, has demonstrated in resuscitating Wharf Road and Creek Road from their former terrible state, which profoundly adversely affected traffic flow, and in turn other matters, which gave Apapa its dreaded reputation of a high blood pressure-inducing location.
We lend our voice to that of the Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO), which recently issued a press statement, commending the Mallam Habib Abdullahi-led NPA Management for fixing these roads, and, which has drastically reduced the wear-and-tear on vehicles and persons.
We are eagerly expectant of more of such gestures of exemplary CSR pouring forth from the NPA.
