The former Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Anenih, has urged Nigerians to ignore what he described as mischievous publications in the media about his recent re-appointment as Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
SHIPS & PORTS DAILY recalls Anenih had been the immediate past Chairman of the NPA Board.
Anenih, in a statement signed by his Personal Assistant, Mr. Peter Abulu, last Thursday said the same attitude should be shown towards similar media publications in respect of efforts by the leadership of the PDP to fill the vacant position of Chairman of its BoT.
The statement read: “The attention of Chief Anenih, the Iyasele of Esan land, has been drawn to several newspaper publications in the last few days about his recent appointment as Chairman of the Board of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the effort by the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to fill the vacant position of its Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman.
“While Chief Anenih appreciates the concerns of some Nigerians about some mischievous publications on these issues, he believes silence is golden in times like this, and has requested concerned Nigerians not to join issues with the opposition elements in their mischievous enterprise.
“The appointment of Chief Anenih as Chairman of NPA Board was the absolute discretion of President Goodluck Jonathan and the filling of the vacant position of the Chairman of BoT of the PDP is the absolute discretion of the party leadership and BoT members. It should not be a matter for media propaganda.”
Several people have expressed dissatisfaction over Anenih’s reappointment as the Chairman of the NPA Board and his quest to also head the PDP BoT Chair.
President Goodluck Jonathan last month, appointed him to lead the NPA Board, which also includes Senator Florence Ita Giwa, Hon. Hamza Dan Mahawi, Senator Lekan Mustapha, Alhaji Aminu Baba Danagundi, Mr. Austin Enyonnia Cosmos, and the Representative of the Ministry of Transport, as members.
The appointment has, however, raised eye brows in some quarters including the former leader of Niger-Delta Militants, Alhaji Asari Dokuboi, who questioned the relevance of Anenih in the political-economy of the country.
