Ogun Area command of Nigeria Customs Service has intercepted no fewer than thirty 25 kilogram bags of Indian hemp.
Controller of the command, Sani Madugu who made the disclosure while handing over the seized drugs to the state commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Bala Fagge said the drugs were intercepted along Imeko/Ilara axis.
“My officers mounted surveillance along Imeko/Ilara axis on a tip off for days. We were following the traffickers’ movements from Benin Republic, using vehicles and motorcycles intermittently to deceive people.
“On sighting officers at Imeko area, they fled into the bush leaving their goods and a motorcycle,” Magudu said.
Fagge, while receiving the seized items, said over three tonnes of illicit drugs have been mopped up from circulation in the last six months by the agency, while about 90 persons arrested are facing prosecution.
He appealed to other security agencies to collaborate with NDLEA to check the influx of hard drugs into the country.
