Ogun Customs blocks bulldozer-smuggling attempt

But for the efforts of very alert operatives of the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), who intercepted and impounded a bulldozer, the heavy duty earthmoving equipment would have been smuggled into Nigeria from the neighbouring Benin Republic recently through the border town of Idi-Iroko, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The economic saboteurs’ attempt that his command successfully aborted had the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Ade Dosumu, baffled at the sheer foolhardiness.
Briefing the press on the activities of his command, Dosumu said: “How can anyone imagine that he can smuggle within the frontiers of this border a bulldozer, a caterpillar on a truck train into this country.”

He went on: “Sometimes, you wonder how economic saboteurs n the country think that they can just smuggle anything into the country. This goes to tell you that sometimes, what we deal with actually goes outside the ordinary to do with the impossible.”
The CAC, who disclosed that the youths of communities within the border town of Idi-Iroko had become the command’s, expressed delight that incidents of attacks on Customs personnel by suspected by smugglers and youths from the host communities had drastically reduced.
