A 38-year-old oil marketer, Monday Edhavigho, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding one Emmanuel Ekememo with the pretence to supply diesel worth N600,000 to him.
Edhavigho is facing a two-count charge bordering on false pretence and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in the month of October 2018 at Otto-Wharf, Trailer Garage, Ajegunle, Apapa.
“The defendant, with the intent to defraud, obtained the cash sum of N600,000 from one Emmanuel Ekememo with the pretence to supply product of diesel for him,” Aigbokhan said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant stole the cash sum of N600,000 property of one Emmanuel Ekememo.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 314 and 287 (9) (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate Joy Ugbomoiko granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed with proof and furnish the court with evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till January 16, 2019 for mention.
