One dead, five missing after cargo ship sinks in China

 

One person died and five are missing after a general cargo ship Hua Chun 19 sank on Thursday the Yellow Sea, south of China’s city of Qingdao, according to China Rescue and Salvage.

After a four-hour search, the rescue crews managed to retrieve six out of a total of 11 crewmembers from the water, with one person not showing signs of life.

The search and rescue crews also reported spotting an oil spill at the scene.

Search efforts continue for the remaining crewmembers.

Hua Chun 19 was carrying 4,000 tons of steel products from Qingdao city, Shandong Province.

The vessel was on its way to Guangdong Province in the south when the accident occurred around 3 am local time.

The cause of the sinking is under investigation.
