The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said a total of 13 buildings, 16 vehicles and three filling stations were completely destroyed after a tanker caught fire in Onitsha, Anambra State last week.
NEMA’s spokesman, Sani Datti in a statement on Monday, said the figures were arrived at after conducting an assessment of the incident in conjunction with Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (ANSEMA).
He also said two persons were seriously injured.
Datti said the fire outbreak affected residential and commercial buildings as well as makeshift shops, while goods worth millions of Naira were destroyed.
“Also affected were fifty petty trading stores and three tricycles popularly known as Keke Napep,” he added.
The NEMA spokesman said the damage and need assessment was carried out by the agencies with a view of assisting the affected persons.
It would be recalled that on Wednesday last week, a fuel tanker with a failed brake at Oguta road roundabout, ran into Mobil Filling Station and consequently fell down, spilling out fuel all over the surroundings which resulted in a fire outbreak.
