Our cadets don’t seat on bare floor, MAN Oron explains

The Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron has refuted claims that some of its cadets sit on the floor to receive lectures.

Speaking to SHIPS & PORTS DAILY yesterday, the Public Relations Officer of the academy, Siddi Mkpandiok said the academy has enough classrooms and furniture for its cadets.

He said, “The academy – because of its national and international outlook – has to meet standards. International Maritime Organization (IMO), and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) set standards against rowdiness and overcrowded classrooms.

“We are aware of the challenges, still we maintain standard for our cadets to learn conveniently.

“Candidly, you know that before the present Rector came on board, we have just one major classroom block called the academic block.

“Even the block was in a bad state that water leaked from the roof but now, the present management has renovated it and beyond that, erected several storey buildings, classrooms and some bungalow.

“We have large numbers of intake because of exigencies but we are able to take care of it. We have erected even executive building. Our cadets are being taken care of.”

SHIPS & PORTS DAILY yesterday quoted a daily newspaper, New Telegraph, which reported that the academy was battling with inadequate amenities leading to a situation where some its students reportedly sit on the floor to receive lectures due to the rowdiness and insufficient furniture in the classrooms.
