Police arraign 3 for illegally boarding ship at Tin Can

Three stowaways namely, Henry Eluemezie, John Eje and Samson Erukubami, were on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly boarding a vessel without purchasing ticket at the Tin Can Island Port.

The stowaways are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and illegal boarding of vessel.

The port prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on January 7, 2019 at Tin-Can Island port, Apapa.

“The defendants conspired together with others at large and without purchasing ticket or being a passenger of a ship entered MV Glovis Century Vessel with the intention of traveling to Europe,” Balogun said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 412 and 400 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendants pleaded guilty to the charges brought against them.

Magistrate M.O Olubi adjourned the case till January 16, 2019 for facts and sentence.
