Police arraign dealer for car theft in Apapa

Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port

A 35-year-old car dealer identified as Christian Friday was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing one Mercedes Benz car worth N800,000 at Apapa.

Friday is facing a lone-count charge bordering on stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Asu Feddy, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between January 2017 and August 2018 at Cementry Road, Olodi-Apapa.

“The defendant stole one Mercedes Benz car 2003 model valued at N800,000 property of one Maurice Ibu,” Feddy said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

Magistrate Mukaila Fadeyi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one surety.

The surety, according to the Magistrate, must be responsible and must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till October 10, 2018 for mention.
