Police arraign man for burglary, theft in Apapa

A 30-year-old man, identified as Umaru Adamu, was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly breaking into the house and stealing some household items in Apapa.

Adamu is facing a two-count charge of burglary and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 7, 2019 at about 2pm at No 113, Uzor Street, Ajegunle, Apapa.

“The defendant unlawfully broke into the house of one Kenneth Nwaorgu and stole one 42 inches Sony Television valued at N100,000, one Samsung Galaxy Note 2 valued at N50,000, one Samsung J2 valued at N40,000, one Tecno phone valued at N30,000, two perfume valued at N3,000 and a cash of N150,000. Total N373,000 properties of one Kenneth Nwaorgu,” Obongha said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 307 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate K.A Ariyo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till February 25, 2019 for mention.
