A 25-year-old man, identified as Abdullahi Auwanu, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly damaging the Ijora bridge hand rail, property of the Federal Government.
Auwanu is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful damage and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on November 26, 2018 at about 5:30am at Ijora Badia on top of the bridge.
“The defendant conspired together with others at large to unlawfully damage the Ijora bridge hand rail belonging to the Federal Government,” Ekpo said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant stole three iron rods valued at N100,000 property of the Federal Government.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 412, 348(a) and 287 (5)(c) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
The Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
One of the sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be an Imam.
He adjourned the matter till December 19, 2018 for mention.
