Police arraign man for possession of Indian hemp, assault

A 24-year-old man, identified as Jimoh Zakari, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly having in his possession two wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp and stabbing one Izuchukwu Ogobode with dangerous weapons at Trade Fair Complex, Lagos.

Zakari is facing a two-count charge bordering on assault and possession of illicit drugs and dangerous weapons.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Kolade Tedunjaye told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 12, 2019 at about 4pm at Swiss Park, Trade Fair Complex, Lagos.

“The defendant unlawfully inflicted wound on one Izuchukwu Ogbode by stabbing him with jack knife on his back,” Tedunjaye said. 

The prosecutor said the offences are punishable under sections 246(b) and 329 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate B.M Amore granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed and must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till April 4, 2019 for mention.
