Police arraign man for stealing dock worker’s car

A 32-year-old man, identified as Nnamdi Philip, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a car belonging to a dock worker, Anthony Uzodinma.

Philip is facing a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Gabriel Ekundayo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 20, 2018 at 9:30am at No 9, Ambrose Street, Ijegun, Satellite Town, Lagos.

“The defendant conspired together with others at large to steal one Toyota Camry with registration number GGE 562 EZ valued at N1 million property of one Anthony Uzodinma,” Ekundayo said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 411 and 287(5)(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate A.O Awogboro granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. One of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the matter till October 2, 2018 for mention.
