Police arraign motorboy for stealing phone

A 25-year-old motorboy, Akeem Ajayi, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing an android phone and the sum of N1,000 in Apapa.

Ajayi is facing a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Perezi Donjor told the court that the defendant committed the offences on January 11, 2019 at about 5am at Auto-Wharf area of Kirikiri, Apapa.

“The defendant conspired together with others at large to steal an android phone valued at N25,000 and the sum of N1,000 property of one Chuks Owuzo,” Donjor said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate O.A Erinle granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

One of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant.

She adjourned the case till January 29, 2019 for mention.
