Police arraign motorboys for assault, stealing

nigeria_policeA 21-year-old motorboy, identified as Lukman Elegbede was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting another motorboy, one Musa Mohammed in Apapa.

Elegbede is facing one-count charge bothering on assault.

The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 27, 2018 at about 3:30pm along Mission Street, Kirikiri Town, Apapa.

“The defendant assaulted one Musa Mohammed by using a broken bottle to stab him on his head which caused him bodily harm,” Aigbokhan said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 173 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

Magistrate K.A Ariyo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety. The surety according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till July 18, 2018 for mention.
In a separate matter, a 25-year-old motorboy, identified as Umar Danjuma, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing one truck battery at Marine Beach, Apapa.

Danjuma is facing a two-count charge bothering on conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Friday Inedu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on June 27, 2018 at about 12:10pm at Marine Beach, Apapa.
“The defendant conspired together with others at large to steal one truck battery valued at N60,000 property of one Bolarinwa Saheed,” Inedu said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate Temitope Babalola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety.

The surety according to the Magistrate, must show the court the proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till July 24, 2018 for mention.
