The police on Thursday arraigned a tanker driver identified as Ahmed Bello before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for driving without a licence and committing traffic offences at Apapa.

Bello is facing a five-count charge bordering on obstruction, inconsiderate driving, reckless driving, abandoning vehicle without ‘C’ caution and driving without a driver’s licence.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Friday Inedu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on October 4, 2018 at 7:30am along UBA Junction, Apapa.

He said, “The defendant, being in charge of driving one MAN diesel truck with registration number ELY 740 XE, caused obstruction to other road users. He drove carelessly and recklessly. He abandoned the vehicle without ‘C’ caution and failed to produce the driver’s licence on demand.”

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 40(3), 18(1), 19(1), 36(1) and 28 of Road Traffic Law 2012.

The defendant however pleaded not guilty to all the charges brought against him.

Magistrate Temitope Babalola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety.

The surety, according to him, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till October 22, 2018 for mention.
