Police arraign three men for damaging vehicles, stealing in Apapa

Three men, Wasiu Rasheed (20), Riliwan Raji (20) and Fadipe Olaniyi (19), were on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly damaging windscreens of vehicles and stealing phones and other valuables at Apapa.

The men are facing eleven-count charge bordering on conspiracy, assault, unlawful damage and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on September 13, 2018 at Apapa.

“The defendants and others at large conspired among themselves to willfully and unlawfully damage windscreen of the following vehicles; one Toyota Camry with registration number AAA 236 AW valued at N24,500 property of Hassan Lukman; another Toyota Camry with registration number KJA 239 AR valued at N17,000 property of Abdullahi Jimoh; one Volkswagen Passat with registration number JJJ 311 CX valued at N46,000 property of Joshhua Ntiedu; and one Volkswagen Bus with registration number FST 742 XK valued at N54,000 property of Akinyele Christopher,” Aigbokhan said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendants applied violence and offensive weapons to steal the following; one Samsung phone valued at N48,000 and cash sum of N15,000 properties of Nasiru Saliu, one Infinix phone valued at N50, 000, wrist-watch valued N11,000 properties of Mustapha Rasaq and Tecno phone valued at N25,000 property of Bamidele Mistura.

Aigbokhan added that the defendant assaulted one Nasiru Saliu by hitting him with cutlass on his left hand, which caused him harm.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 297, 173 and 350 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
Magistrate Joy Ugbomoiko granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety each in like sum.

She adjourned the case till November 11, 2018 for mention.
