Police arraign three men for defrauding dock workers of N.8m

The police on Monday arraigned three men, namely Wasiu Abubakar (29), Tunde Adekunle (27) and Friday Bamidele (28), before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing phones and using the sim cards to transfer money from the bank accounts of two dock workers, Aramide Adebayo and Abayomi Adeoye.

Abubakar, Adekunle and Bamidele are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Ogbongha, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on October 11, 2018 at about 9:30am at Dockyard Road and on October 12, 2018 at about 10am.

“The defendants stole Nokia 3310 phone valued N7,000 and used the sim card to transfer the sum of N600,000 from Access Bank property of Aramide Adebayo,” Ogbongha said.

Ogbongha also said that the defendants stole Tecno phone valued N35,000 with sim card to transfer N200,000 from First Bank property of Abayomi Adeoye.

According to him, the offences contravened Sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Magistrate A.S Okubule granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till November 20, 2018 for mention.
