Three men were on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly causing breach of peace in Apapa.
The three men are Dare Adewumi (28), Idowu Ibrahim (22) and Abdul Basid (21). They are facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, unlawful assembly, possession of offensive weapons and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Kolade Tedunjade, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on December 25, 2018 at about 3:00pm along Olayinka Road, Ajegunle, Apapa.
“The defendants conspired together to unlawfully assemble, to disturb the peace of the people in Ajegunle,” Tedunjade said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendants were found armed with cutlasses and other offensive weapons in the public without authority.
Tedunjade added that the defendants took part in the fight and conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause fear to the neighborhood by fighting, throwing charms, striking the ground with cutlass and throwing bottles on passers-by.
According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 409, 45, 51, 54, 44(4) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to all the charges brought against them.
Magistrate B.M Amore granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with proof of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
One of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendants.
He adjourned the case till January 21, 2019 for mention.
