Police arraign truck owner for breach of peace in Lagos

The police on Thursday arraigned a 42-year-old truck owner, Anthony Izunwune, before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly causing breach of peace in Lagos.

Izunwune is facing a one-count bordering on breach of peace.

The prosecutor, Marvelous Obongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on October 7, 2018 at about 11pm at Total Filling Station, along Old Ojo Road, Kuje Amuwo, Lagos.

“The defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by instructing his truck drivers to block the public road which caused panic and unrest in the area,” Obongha said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

Magistrate K. A Ariyo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till November 1, 2018 for mention.
