Police arraigns truck driver for stealing batteries, cash

Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port

A 41-year-old truck driver, Francis Udoh was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing batteries and money belonging to GMT Haulage Limited.

Udoh is facing a two-count charge bothering on stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 14, 2018 along Oshodi/Apapa Expressway, Lagos.

Ekpo said, “The defendant being the driver in charge of DAF CF Truck with registration number LND 69 XD stole N250, 000 cash and two truck batteries valued N120,000 property of GMT Haulage Limited.”

According to him, the offences are punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

The Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties. The sureties according to him must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government. One of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant.

He adjourned the case till June 13, 2018 for mention.
