Police has arraigned a 20-year-old man identified as Edwin Archibong before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing seven pieces of iron fittings at Kirikiri Lighter Terminal, Apapa.
In a chat with SHIPS & PORTS DAILY, a police source who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said, “Archibong works as a welder for Royal Salt Company. On the fateful day, the security men at the gate caught him with the pieces of iron and then handed him over to the police for prosecution.”
Archibong is facing a one-count charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Alexander Esebamen told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 4, 2018 at Royal Salt Company Limited, KLT Phase 1, Apapa.
“The defendant stole seven pieces of iron fittings valued at N10,000 and property of Royal Salt Company,” he said.
According to Esebamen, the offence contravenes Sections 287 of Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge.
In his ruling, the Magistrate Temitope Babalola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety.
He adjourned the case till April 10, 2018 for mention.
