The Port Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (PCIID) on Friday arraigned 14 men before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly vandalising a vessel belonging to the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) at Igbeloju Village, Apapa.
The men are Mautin Anthony (56), Patrick Ojukwu (53), Oscar Aigbadion (42), Garba Mohammed (20), Moses Abadino (32), Atikpo Lukemon (22), Christopher Austine (38), Isaah Mohammed (32), Shaibu Salihu (26), Sherif Badmos (34), Sanni Achima (28), Umar Abubakar (25), Abubakar Sadik (25), and Shaibu Saidu (26).
They are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and unlawful damage.
The prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police Amos Dagbo, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on June 3, 2019 at about 8:30am at Igbeloju Village, Apapa.
“The defendants conspired together with others at large to steal 200 pieces of iron plates, 8 sacks of cable wires, one cylinder, one panel, one toll hook from NPA dock vessel, whose values are yet unknown property of NPA,” Dagbo said.
According to the prosecutor, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 287 and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges, and were granted by bail in the sum of N150,000 with two responsible sureties each in like sum by Magistrate Anuoluwapo Morafa.
The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of three years tax payment to Lagos State Government.
Magistrate Morafa adjourned the case till June 18, 2019 for mention.
