Police charge two truck drivers for stealing 172 motorcycles

Two truck drivers — Ahmed Kolawole (24) and Sodiq Bukola (23) — were on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 172 motorcycles.

The defendants are facing a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

The port prosecutor, Alexander Esebamen told the court that the defendants committed the offences on January 19, 2019 at about 6:40pm at Apapa.

“The defendant conspired together with others at large to steal 172 cartons of motorcycles valued at N30 million property of one Oyinlusi Mayowa,” Esebamen said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287(10) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

Magistrate A.I.O Alaka granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till April 30, 2019 for mention.
