Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port

Two men namely Aroyehun Sunday (45) and Wasiu Rilwan (24), were on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing a 40-foot container at APM Terminals, Lagos Port Complex, Apapa.

Sunday and Rilwan are facing a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

The port prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on September 17, 2018 at about 10am at APM Terminals, Apapa.

“The defendants conspired together with others at large to steal one CMA 1 X 40 foot container number: FSCU 8644164 valued at N2 million property of one Olatunji Subair, a staff of Bag Industry,” Balogun said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 (5)(a)(b)(9)(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendants however pleaded not guilty to the charge against them.

Magistrate K. A Ariyo granted the defendants bail in the sum of N600,000 with two responsible sureties each in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate must be gainfully employed in a reputable organization and must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till December 18, 2018 for mention.
