The Seme Area command of the Nigeria Customs Service has arrested two suspects, Morufu Salau and Saliu Adaramaja involved in the smuggling of 550 cartons of frozen poultry products concealed in a truck.
According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Taupyen Salechang, made available to SHIPS & PORTS DAILY yesterday, the impounded poultry products with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N6, 048,680 was intercepted along Mosafejo axis “through intelligence”.
He said a patrol team led by Ozah Mathew, Chief Superintendent of Customs, effected the seizure when the said truck was coming out from the creeks on the 4 January, 2016.
“The imported frozen poultry product was arrested in a blue Volvo truck with an orange head (Reg No. FKJ 359 XJ). The truck compartment used was well constructed for the purpose of concealment as it is physically seen empty on sighting the inside,” he said.
He said the suspects will be prosecuted to serve as deterrent to those who have chosen smuggling as their means of livelihood.
