Shanghai container throughput rises 3% in April

China’s Shanghai port, the world’s busiest container port, registered a small increase in container throughput in April over last year, according to Shanghai International Port (Group) Co (SIPG).

Last month, Shanghai port moved 3.11million TE of box volumes, inching up 3% compared to 3.02million TEU seen in April 2014, data from SIPG showed.

On a month-on-month comparison, April volumes rose 5.8% from 2.94million TEU posted in March.

In the first four months of this year, the Chinese port handled a total throughput of 11.79million TEU, representing an increase of 5.4% compared to 11.19million TEU recorded in the previous corresponding period.
