Shanghai container volumes up 4.9% in April

The Chinese port of Shanghai has registered higher container throughput in April compared to the year-ago volume, according to statistics from Shanghai International Port (Group) Co (SIPG).

Shanghai, the world’s busiest container port, recorded throughput of 3.28m TEU in April, representing an increase of 4.9% from 3.12m TEU in April 2016, data from SIPG showed.

Last month’s volume, however, dropped by 4.6% compared to 3.43m TEU seen in March this year.

From January to April 2017, Shanghai port posted a total throughput of 12.67m TEU, an increase of 8.7% from 11.66m TEU in the same period of last year.
