Shanghai port container volumes dip by 5.2%

Container volumes handled at China’s Shanghai port dipped by 5.2% in the first 11 months of the year. 

Data released by the Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) shows that the port handled a total container throughput of 34.93 million TEU, representing a drop of 5.2% from the 36.85 million TEU recorded in the corresponding period of 2017. 

Also in November, container throughput at the world’s busiest container port stood at 3.53 million TEU, down 1.9% compared to the 3.6 million TEU handled in the same month of last year.

The November 2018 volumes also declined 1.1% from 3.57 million TEU recorded in October.
