Signals Commandant visits Apapa Local Government

Commandant of signals headquarters, Brig.Gen.Peter Aro recently paid a returned visit to the Sole Administrator, Apapa Local Government to further discuss crucial security issue which is as regards threat to human survival at the council Secretariat.

Aro said the essence of the visit is to support in thrashing the increasing social menace especially the Okada riders that have constituted nuisance to the environment through disobedience to traffic rules.

He went further to state that urgent action should be taken to avoid the spill over effect of disarrayed militants from other localities. According to him he does not want Apapa to become new haven for insurgents to destabilise the peace of innocent citizens.
He stated that the spate of armed robbers is challenging because they come in through boats and ride okada to operate, adding that for this reason concerted efforts should be put in place to ward off these unwholesome activities.

The commandant implored the Sole Administrator to take drastic action on articulated vehicles parking on Liverpool bridge which is obstacle security and emergency cases. The Sole Administrator, Hon.Luqman Babatunde Alao supported the Commandant’s statement.

He said that for effective operations since assumption of office he has been thinking of how to curb their excesses. He therefore sought the assistance of the Commandant on security matters.

Alao commended the gallant efforts and activities of the military for successful operations at Arepo,Isawo and Igbo Olomu in tracking down the militants. He therefore enjoined the commandant to intensify effort on Apapa security issues so that they would not make our environment their base. Also the commandant, Signals School,Apapa,Major-General I.O.Rabiu paid a courtesy visit to the Sole Administrstor at the council secretariat. The commandant said that he considers it necessary as the school is a within the local government.

According to him, under democracy, the military is expected to subject itself to civil rule in order to have harmonious civil-military relationship for the stability and development of democracy in the country. He pledged his total loyalty and requested that if the local government has any social function, it should not hesitate to invite the administration.

Rabiu presented the challenges to the Sole Administrator such as bad roads and water issue within the school complex. He stated that the school compound is an eyesore during raining season. He therefore enjoined the Sole Administrator to quickly intervene as part of his corporate social responsibility. The Commandant was accompanied by his subordinates: Brig. Gen T. O. Onukhua, Col. O. T. Ajakaiye, Col. M. V. Abdullahi and Capt. N. Gidare.
