Sokoto Customs seizes 650 bags of rice

CUSTOMS-RICE

Sokoto Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service on Monday, said it impounded 300 bags of foreign rice concealed in 350 bags of Labana rice.

Labana rice is produced locally in Kebbi state.

The Area Comptroller, Alhaji Nasir Ahmed, while displaying the smuggled product at the Command Headquarters in Kebbi, said this was another trick used by smugglers in order to succeed in their illegal activities.

“They conceal foreign rice in locally produced rice in order to deceive our men not knowing that we are equal to the task,” he said

Ahmed said that the rice were intercepted along Sokoto-Gusau road last Saturday.

He added that they would invite the management of Labana Rice Mill in order to ascertain the origin of the rice and their duty paid value.

He reiterated that the Command would continue treating smugglers as economic saboteurs, saying “there is no mercy for smugglers,”

The Customs boss however, advised them to retire from their illegal activities and support the government in its efforts to revive the nation’s economy.
