Teenager arrested for stealing N153,000 phone in Apapa

A 19-year-old teenager, Richard Okpeke, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing phones worth N153,000 in Apapa.

Okpeke is facing a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, bulgary and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 5, 2019 at No 25, Rufia Street, Ajegunle, Apapa.

“The defendant conspired together with others at large to break into the house of one Emmanuel Ebhota and stole three Tecno phones valued at N67,500,” Ekpo said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant stole one Itel android phone and one small Nokia phone, all valued at N47,500 properties of one Priscilla Ebhota.

Ekpo added that the defendant stole one Infinix smart phone valued at N38,000 property of one Emilia Ebhota.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 307(2) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him.

Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

One of the sureties must be a blood relative to the defendant.

He adjourned the case till February 20, 2019 for mention.
