Three men in court for assaulting truck driver

Three men namely, Lukuman Atanda (35), Kabiru Ade (33) and Segun Okekun (40,) were on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a truck driver in Lagos.

Atanda, Ade and Okekun are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and assault.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Kolade Tedunjaye, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on February 4, 2019 at about 11:30pm at Fin-Niger Bus Stop along Lagos/Badagry Expressway, Lagos.

“The defendants conspired together with others at large to steal the sum of N15,000 property of one Babatunde Atanda,” Tedunjaye said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendants assaulted Atanda by using stick to hit him and inflicted open injury on his head, which caused him bodily harm.

According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 287 and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The first and third defendants pleaded guilty to the charges while the second defendant pleaded not guilty to the charages against him.

Magistrate B.M Amore granted the second defendant bail in the sum of N30,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

One of the sureties must be a blood relative to the second defendant.

He adjourned the case till February 25, 2019 for mention and also facts and sentence.
