A 27-year-old transport manager, Kingsley Okafor, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding one woman, Mrs Esther Eborigbe, of the sum of N830,000 at Apapa.
Okafor is facing a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and fraud.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Friday Inedu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on September 18, 2018 at about 11:35am at Apapa.
“The defendant conspired together to fraudulently obtain the sum of N830,000 from one Mrs Esther Eborigbe, with the pretence to provide a truck to transport goods from Apapa, Lagos to Sango Otta, Ogun State knowing same to be false,” Inedu said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 812 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
Magistrate Temitope Babalola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The Magistrate ordered that N10,000 must be credited to the Chief Registrar’s account and one of the sureties must be a Pastor.
He adjourned the case to January 8, 2019 for mention.
