Truck driver docked for traffic offences

A truck driver identified as Olusola Monday was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly committing traffic offences along Kirikiri Road, Apapa.

Monday is facing a three-count charge bothering on reckless driving, careless driving and contravening the terms of driving license.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Iyobosa Onaiwu told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 8, 2018 at about 12pm along Kirikiri Road, Apapa.

“The defendant being the driver of DAF truck with registration number FKJ 250 XT drove same on the Public Highway in a dangerous and reckless driving,” Onaiwu said.

She said the defendant drove in a careless and inconsiderate manner and as such contravened the terms of his driving license.

According to her, the offences are punishable under section 19, 18(1) and 32 of Road Traffic Law 2012, Law of Lagos State of Nigeria.

The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate O.S Abioye granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties must be gainfully employed with proof of being taxpayers to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till May 24, 2018 for mention.
